The Rt. Hon The Viscount Thurso (aka John Thurso, MP)

John joined the Savoy company as a management trainee in 1971. In 1978 he was made Reception Manager at Claridges before becoming General Manager of the Hotel Lancaster in Paris. He then was Founder General Manager and Operations Director at Cliveden, now Britain’s highest rated hotel.

From there he became Chief Executive of Granfel Holdings, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Kuwaiti Investment Office and then became Managing Director of Fitness and Leisure Holdings, the principle asset of which is Champneys, the Health Resort.

He is a non-executive director and chairman of a number of other companies besides the family estates in Caithness. He has been awarded the Master Innholder award of the Worshipful Company of Innholders.

John was elected Member of Parliament at Westminster for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross at the General election in 2001 and was re-elected in 2005.
